Needed: Medical Social Worker

Responsibilities:

  • Hospital Visits

    • Assist the family throughout the entire hospital and surgery experience from identification of medical concern to post-surgery follow-up and support

    • Assist the family with sourcing medication, food or anything else needed during or after the hospital stay.

    • Ensuring families understand Links’ Medical Agreement and obtain appropriate signatures.

    • Keeping medical files on each case with medical history, relevant forms, bills, etc. and converting all past medical files to electronic versions.

    • In certain cases, picking up and dropping off the family from their community for appointments or surgery.

    • Supporting families through hospital check in, child’s surgery and check out (at minimum).

    • Advocating for the families with hospital staff, nurses, and doctors, as needed.

    • Obtaining case history, photos and interviews with patients both pre and post surgery for social media fundraising.

    • Work with Links Founders on projects as they arise.

  • Health Camps

    • Work with NGOs, clinics, and government Primary Health Centers to conduct monthly immunization and awareness campaigns on key health-related issues, such as but not limited to, dengue, deworming, hygiene, and family planning.

    • Follow-up and refer to appropriate medical facility for any critical medical cases which are identified as a result of the camps.

    • Partner with the Links Charitable Trust Education Center to participate in monthly parent educational groups.

    • Organize monthly screening and health check ups for 40+ children who attend Links Educational Center.

  • Skills:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Ability to work effectively with a team of dedicated Links volunteers, hospital staff, families and children.

    • Ability to take detailed notes about diagnosis, treatment, cost, follow up and be able to communicate this to Links’ staff and volunteers, and keep up-to-date files for each child.

    • Ability to speak English, Hindi and Bengali.

    • Flexibility and ability to thrive in often ambiguous and fast-paced environments.

    • Respect for all regardless of their background, socio-economics, religion, race or gender.

    • Handle all cases with confidentiality.

  • Qualifications:

    • MS in Nursing or Social Work

    • 2+ years of experience in related field
