Children from at-risk and migrant communities in Bengaluru suffer from various, often serious medical conditions and illnesses exacerbated by the unsanitary and oftentimes unsafe living conditions. They often do not have access to or knowledge of quality healthcare. The majority of the cases Links is involved with are acute cases of malnutrition, congenital heart and intestinal disorders, and emergency cases. 

Links Charitable Trust works closely with NGOs and doctors to identify these children, support their families' hospital visits, and with the help of individual and CSR donors, to cover the costs of needed surgeries and/or treatment. For many of the very difficult cases Links supports, the process for obtaining quality medical care is not a simple or easy one, and when surgeries are needed, it is even more complex. Links does not shy away from expensive or complicated cases because the treatment is, more often than not, lifesaving. 

The typical process for a child who needs surgery is as follows: Links identifies a medical condition in the community through referral or request for assistance. Links  accompanies the patient and family to the hospital for diagnostics, identifies the  appropriate hospital for treatment, coordinates the surgery/treatment with the hospital staff, arranges and pays for any necessary medication, donates to the blood bank if a blood transfusion is needed, stays with the patient and family during often long hospital stays, advocates for the patient and family with the doctors and hospitals, empowers families to advocate for themselves, and often pays several Lakh rupees (thousands of USD)  for treatment. It does not stop there. The family must be supported once they again return home. This is a big undertaking, and one that Links cannot do without your valuable support.
